Etiquette question:

also: Hi! I have Christmas to post about and knitting to show... later. Probably on New Year's Day when I'll be home in the daylight to take pictures.

So I have an etiquette question for you fellow knitters/crafters. If you are knitting in public (or in your office) and someone comes up to ask what you are making and you answer them but then they GRAB what you are making WHILE you are currently knitting (without asking, by the way) is it considered rude to stab them in the hand with your knitting needles (after you finish the row)?

Strictly hypothetical of course*

Also if the grabber is a non-knitter/crafter who tells you how to do things craft-wise are you within your rights to follow the stabbing up with some sort of kick?

*Okay fine, it's not hypothetical. but I didn't stab anyone so I think I deserve points for that.

  1. You are absolutely within your rights to do a little stabbing if the grabbing results in live stitches coming of the needles(aaaagh!). If not, then you'll just have to make do with dirty looks.
As for the no-knitting-knowledge-having "helper", maybe just a small kick.

  2. Ugh. I hate when that happens.

What's worse is that every time I'm knitting at work (on my break), my coworkers ask if I'm knitting a sleeve. Or a glove.

Except that I'm never knitting sleeves. Or gloves.

  3. Only, and I can't stress this enough, only if you can combine the two into some martial arts double stab-kick.

  4. Hypothetically (of course) I say stab away!

  5. oh! oh!... i have a set of the signature needle arts straights on the way.. with a stiletto point. do you think those would be a tad too dangerous?

  6. Stab away! You have Knit Picks Options needles, don't you? Nice and pointy. Aim the kick for the shin though - it does the most damage.

I'd love to hear the story of exactly what happened...

  7. Kudos to you for your restraint! You do, however, have nearly a full year to get back on Santa's "Nice" list, so stab away!
